Thomas Tuchel will miss Brentford’s game against Arsenal at the start of his England duty
Thomas Tuchel’s tenure as England manager has officially begun, but the new manager is not expected to mark the occasion with a trip to watch Brentford play Arsenal on Wednesday.
Tuchel was appointed as Gareth Southgate’s permanent replacement in October, but his start date has been pushed back to January 2025, giving him the chance to watch interim boss Lee Carsley take over the team instead.
Having now officially started life as England manager, many thought Tuchel could head to the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday to begin the personal scouting he has already promised, but The Telegraph states that this will not be the case.
Instead, Tuchel is expected to attend this weekend’s games, with Manchester United‘s trip in the face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday the obvious headline act.
England have no games scheduled until March 21, when the Tuchel era will officially begin with a World Cup qualifier against Albania. Latvia will also visit Wembley three days later to end the international break.
Tuchel is expected to play a handful of live games before March as he looks to rejuvenate a squad that fell at the final hurdle of Euro 2024 last summer.
