Therapists sound alarm after studying shows a dramatic increase in gender dysphoria among children
Mental health experts have warned that social factors could contribute to the rise of gender dysphoria in children, after a new study found that cases had jumped abruptly over a 10 -year period.
The gender dysphoria refers to “the psychological distress that is due to the incompetent between one’s sex given at birth and one’s gender identity,” according to the American psychiatric association.
StudyPublished on January 24th in British Medical Journal, Childhood Illness Archives, revealed that 50 times the increase in the prevalence of gender dysphoria among patients between the ages of 18 or younger in the surroundings of primary care in England between 2011 and 2021 was reported.
The study found that the rating of the gender dysphoria incident raised abruptly among patients after 2015 and was “approximately twice as high” than in men by 2021.
Just over half, 53%, patients also had an anxiety, depression and/or self -harm.
The authors of the study did not examine the reasons for the rise in cases, but they said that “social factors” could contribute.
They cited greater acceptance and awareness of gender differences, increased use of social media and increased rates of poor mental health in this age group.
Psychotherapist and the author Jonathan Alpert told Fox News Digital that the dramatic trend of growth of gender dysphoria among young people in recent years should raise “serious questions about the role of cultural and social influences.”
“Although increased consciousness has made it easier for some children to express their struggles, we cannot neglect the possibility of social infection, along with peer influence and social media – can contribute to this increase,” he said.

Alpert warned that adolescents are particularly sensitive to social messages during this critical stage of development when their identity is determined. Teens who are treated with gender dysphoria should be properly supported and treated with compassion without pressing them to make medical decisions “who change life,” he said.
“Adolescents are naturally impressive, and in today’s hyper-hiper world, many are exposed to strong messages that can shape their sense of identity, and therefore feel and behave. What concerns me is a psychotherapist at which some young young people are moving According to medical interventions that change their lives without enough exploration of fundamental psychological factors.
Those who have gender dysphoria often suffer from other mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression, he noted, warning that rush to medicalization to change one’s gender cannot deal with these fundamental problems.
“Parents, teachers and mental health experts like me have to work together on careful research of these trends. We need to balance compassion with caution, ensuring that children get appropriate support for the movement of their feelings without unnecessary pressure or hectic decisions. This is deep personally personally personally personally A question for individuals, but we cannot be ashamed of asking important questions about what triggers this increase, “he added.
Psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman Said Fox News Digital to believe that social influences, from social media to schools, were a “huge factor” to promote gender confusion among children in recent years.
“In most cases, the will of the child corrupted others by telling them what was with them” okay “and what would make them happy,” Lieberman said. “Social media awarded children to get hormones and surgery with attention from” likes “and positive comments. They think it is” cool “to rebel a child against society and choose who wants to be.”
Teachers, parents and medical professionals, who benefit political or financially, have also played a role in this trend, she claimed.
“Diagnosis of gender dysphoria is a gift that continues to give because of this new demand for hormones, surgery and so on,” Lieberman said.
