The White House pauses federal support and loans
US President Donald Trump stopped grants, loans and other federal assistance, according to a missed Government Memorandum confirmed by the US partner of the BBC, CBS News.
In the letter, the acting of the head of the Office for Management and Budget (OMB) invites the Government agency to ensure that consumption is in accordance with Trump’s priorities – and nods to the numerous executive commands adopted by the President returning.
The complete impact of the break is not yet clear, though the memorandum determines that social security is not affected on Medicaid and benefits. It comes for days after they have now stopped almost all the side of help.
This move was criticized by members of the Roman Democratic Party and could face legal challenges.
Memorial, signed by the head of the head of OMB, Matthew Vaet, calls on Government agencies to temporarily stop their financial assistance programs, so they can review the consumption that you might influence the various orders that Trump signed.
He says it includes “financial assistance for foreign assistance, non -governmental organization, Dei, woke up his native ideology and Green New Deal.”
A deadline of 17:00 EST (22:00 GMT) was set. Each agency was told to stop the issue of new awards as well as payments to the existing awards.
The memorial further requires that all agencies report that programs stopped by February 10th.
The White House has not yet officially commented on the missed document.
Democrats in Washington DC quickly sounded concern about the plan.
The Best Democratic Congress Primary Award – Senator of Washington Patty Murray and Congressia Connecticut Rosa Delauro – sent a letter to the White House on Monday night, expressing his “extreme alarm” with a correspondent.
“The circumference of what you order is breathtaking, unprecedented and will have devastating consequences throughout the country,” the congress woman wrote. “Today we write to pray you in the strongest possible conditions to support the law and the Constitution and ensure that all federal resources are delivered in accordance with the law.”
The leader of the Democratic Minority of the American Senate, Chuck Schumer, was also critical of the break: “Congress approved these investments and are not unbreakable; they are the law.”
He added: “This will mean missed salaries and rent and everything between: chaos for all, from university to non -profit charities.”
The move follows last week’s news that the state department has stopped almost all the existing side of help and stopped new assistance, according to an internal memorandum sent to officials and US embassies abroad.
It seemed to affect everything, from development assistance to military assistance, making exceptions only for emergency assistance in food and for military financing of Israel and Egypt.
Trump has previously issued an executive command for a 90-day break in external development while reviewing the effectiveness and consistency in his foreign policy.
The US is the world’s largest donor in international aid after spending $ 68 billion (£ 66 billion) in 2023 according to Government data. It seems that a statement department’s notice influences everything from developmental assistance to military assistance.
