‘The View’ co-host Sunny Hostin calls President Trump a ‘DEI hire’
“View” co-hosted by Sunny Hostin called President Donald Trump a “DEI mercenary” on Monday while reacting to his inauguration and pointed to the “hypocrisy” of his announcement that he would get rid of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policy.
“The only thing I thought about was the hypocrisy of inaugurating a man for president on the same day we commemorate MLK, and that same man says he’s going to get rid of diversity, equality and inclusion,” Hostin said. “Because Martin Luther King didn’t just want racial equality, he wanted economic equality. And that’s something people often miss.”
“I want to remind people that he said that black Americans deserve reparations for the injustices they face. He argued that reparations are a form of justice, really, not charity, and he said, and I quote, ‘it’s okay to tell a man to stand up for himself straps, but to tell the man without boots that he should pick himself up by his straps,’ she continued.
“Thinking about that and Donald Trump saying things about making this country a meritocracy, you’re talking about a man who didn’t become president of the United States because of merit,” Hostin said, arguing that he “had no political experience.” She concluded, “He’s been given everything he’s got. He’s a legacy employee. He’s, if nothing else, a DEI employee, an ‘I didn’t earn it’ employee, and so, those are just some of the things I was thinking. ”
CANDLES FLASH AS ‘THE VIEW’ HOSTS CLASH OVER REASON FOR HARRIS’ BRUTAL DEFEAT: ‘WHAT ABOUT AMERICA?’
Hostin and co-host Ana Navarro revealed they weren’t watching inauguration on Monday, both noting that it is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day. At the top of her remarks, Hostin revealed that she went to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch college football with friends instead.
Later in the show, Navarro encouraged Democrats to protest Trump whenever they get the chance.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said she watched and covered the inauguration, and came away believing people should retire the phrase “normalizing Donald Trump,” arguing that Trump is already “normalized” because he was re-elected.
“Donald Trump has been normalized, like it or not, 75 million people voted for him. He is now as much a part of American history as George Bush, Barack Obama and any other two-term president,” Griffin said.
She continued: “I was shocked at the sight – he left four years ago in disgrace, hardly anyone showed up when he announced his re-election two years ago – and now he’s back like a conquering king and he had the biggest titans of industry, fashion designers, he had Democrats and all the former presidents out there, and I think it’s a moment to consider why he won and the reasons why he did.”
