The results of Saturday’s 3rd round of the FA Cup
The third round of the FA Cup arrived with a bang on Saturday, with a number of Premier League heavyweights desperate not to go down.
As for Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City, they have had no problems against lower league opponents Accrington Stanley, Morecambe and Salford City – the aggregate score of 17-0 shows the gulf in class between the top and fourth tiers of English football.
Brighton & Hove Albion impressed with a huge 4-0 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road, while Bournemouth also reminded everyone of Andoni Iroala’s ever-improving form by beating five past Championship promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion.
Leicester City and Nottingham Forest were second Premier League the winners – the former seeing off Queens Park Rangers in style, while the latter saw off Luton Town – but there was a huge shock in west London.
Plymouth Argyle, only after he dismissed Wayne Rooneyscored the only goal of the game to beat Brentford – a team with one of the most impressive home records in the Premier League. Morgan Whittaker was the match winner, finding space on the edge of the penalty area before firing into the bottom corner.
