An Iraqi man who performed several Qur’an Burnings in Sweden killed in a shooting near Stockholm, the authorities said on Thursday.

Salwan Momika, 38, has prepared several burnings and desecrations of the Islamic Holy Book in Sweden in 2023. Videos of the Qur’an Burnings got around the world and caused anger and criticism in several of them Muslim nationsleading to clutter and restlessness in many places.

Stockholm district Court said the verdict was scheduled for Thursday in a trial in which Momika was postponed to the defendant because one of the accused died. The judge in the court, Göran Lundahl, confirmed that the deceased was a math. He said there was no information about when or how Momika died.

Police said they were alerted to a shooting in a residential building in Sodertalje on Wednesday night, near Stockholmand found a man with a firearm wounds who died later.

Prosecutors said five people were arrested overnight on suspicion of murder. They said they were all adults, but did not give further details.

Last March he was arrested in neighboring Norway after saying he would look for asylum there and sent back to Sweden, TT reported.

Momika and co -defendant were charged in August for stimulating hatred of the statements they made in connection with the Qur’an Burnings. The verdict was supposed to be executed on Thursday morning.
