Suryakumar Yadav calls Rohit Sharma’s offensive mic his ‘specialty’: ‘I stay away from…’

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav recently made a shocking revelation regarding the mic antics. The 34-year-old claimed that he stays away from the microphone as he wants it to remain Rohit Sharma’s specialty.

Suryakumar took over the captaincy of India’s T20I following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format in 2024. Along with Rohit, another senior batsman Virat Kohli also retired after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup title win.

While Suryakumar is India’s captain in T20Is, Rohit Sharma still leads the team in Tests and ODIs. Rohit will lead India in the upcoming Champions Trophy where Suryakumar has not found a place.

Suryakumar Yadav talks about Rohit Sharma’s mic antics

While speaking on Star Sports, Suryakumar Yadav insisted that he stays away from the microphone as he wants it to remain Rohit Sharma’s specialty. In the conversation, he referred to Rohit’s famous dialogue related to the ‘garden’.

“Try karta hoon door rahoon stumps se. Agar kisi ka woh specialty hai toh won unhe ke sath rahe toh zada better hai (I try to stay away from the stump. If it is someone’s specialty, then it is better to stay with that person only), ” said Suryakumar.

The cult dialogue ‘Garden’ has become Rohit Sharma’s trademark. The dialogue went viral during India’s five-match home Test series against England in early 2024 when Rohit scolded his fielders for being too relaxed during the Test match.

“Mai nahi rokta hu kisi ko” – Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav further mentioned that players often hear that dialogue when they are actually wandering around inside the garden. He also claims that he does not stop his players because none of his players do such things on the field.

“Haan woh jab hum ghumte rehte hai garden mein, woh sunne ko mil hi jata hai (Yes, when we wander around the garden, we hear these things),” said Suryakumar.

“Nahi, mai nahi rokta hu kisi ko kyuki koi ghumta hi nahi hai (I don’t stop anybody because nobody is roaming around),” he replied when asked if he stops any player from being too relaxed.

Suryakumar Yadav’s record as India captain

Suryakumar Yadav has a fantastic record as India’s captain in T20Is. The 34-year-old has guided India to victory in 14 out of 18 T20Is with a magnificent win percentage of 77.77. He is currently fourth in the list of most successful T20I captains for India after Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Suryakumar was dismissed for a duck in the first T20I of the ongoing series against England and will look to get back among the runs in the second game. The right-hander is a key part of India’s T20I line-up with excellent numbers.

So far he has scored 2570 runs in 79 T20Is at an average of 40.15 and a strike rate of 167.53. He scored 4 hundreds and 21 fifties in his T20I career. He is currently not a part of India’s ODI squad which is why he has not been considered for the Champions Trophy.
