Spurs lead the race to sign the upgrade Dragusin, who is a huge “unit at the back”
We are halfway through the season, and you can already feel it Tottenham Hotspur Premier League the campaign is over.
Ange Postecoglou side slid down to 12th place after them defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday and are currently 12 points clear of Chelsea in a guaranteed final Champions League place.
However, the citizens of North London have League Cup semi-final which is expected tomorrow evening, an FA Cup game for the weekend and stays in European leagueso there is still something to play for.
With that said, in order to have any chance in these competitions, the club must address their biggest weakness, which is their defence, and based on recent reports, that could happen as they are linked with someone who could finally replace Radu Dragusin.
Tottenham Hotspur transfer news
According to a a recent report from Caught OffsideTottenham are one of several teams interested in Udinese centre-back Thomas Kristensen.
In fact, the report claims that the biggest interest is currently felt to be coming from the north Londoners, although Leicester City and Bayer Leverkusen have also been highlighted as keen parties.
While the potential competition isn’t ideal, the good news is that, according to the story, the promising defender is likely to be available for around £16.5m, which could leave some funds for more deals this month.
Overall, this seems like it could be a fairly simple and relatively cheap transfer to pull off and, given Kristensen’s ability, one Spurs should be done, especially since he would be Dragušin’s dream upgrade.
How Kristensen compares to Dragusin
So the first thing to say is that, given the importance of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven to Postecoglou’s system, the former for his leadership and experience and the latter for his lightning speed and decision-making, Kristensen will not be signed as real competition for them .
Instead, the Denmark international would almost certainly be seen as a rival to Dragusin to be the team’s first-choice reserve, and based on their individual campaigns this season, it would be a competition that the Udinese ace would almost win.
Now, given where they play, we can’t show it through goals and assists like we would with an attacking player, but instead, we can see the Dane’s superiority by comparing their underlying numbers.

For example, according to FBref, the Aarhus-born titan leads the vast majority of relevant metrics, including but not limited to progressive passes and carries, key passes, tackles, tackles won, clearances, aerial duels, while making fewer errors that lead to shots , all 90.
Moreover, as well as being far more impressive from a statistical perspective, the 22-year-old should be able to add more physicality to the Lilywhites’ back line.
For example, he stands at a massive 6 foot 6 to Romania’s 6 foot 3, and according to respected analyst Ben Mattinsonis the “unit in the rear.”
Ultimately, while Dragusin can be a scapegoat for Spurs at times, he is clearly not at the level needed to cover Romero and Van de Ven, while Kristensen looks like he could be.
So Daniel Levy and Co should act fast to land him this month before someone overtakes them.
