Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich cheekily punched him IndiaTest captain Rohit Sharma during the post-match talk on the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Katich humorously suggested that Rohit could have a promising career in stand-up comedy after cricket, referring to his witty remarks in a recent interview.
During the test in Sydney, Rohit Sharma faced questions about his future in cricket after deciding to sit out the final match. Responding to the speculations, Rohit said he is “not going anywhere”, hitting critics with a microphone or a pen. His playful response caught the attention of Katich, who couldn’t resist cracking a joke with the Indian skipper.
“Well, if you look at the numbers, they’re scary. We saw that in this Test,” Katich was quoted as saying by India Today. “It was very unselfish of him to give up the test. I saw that interview, very well said. There is no doubt that he has a future after cricket in stand-up comedy as his humor was very good.”

Rohit’s struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

In his interview with Star Sports, Rohit expressed optimism about his return to form in the coming months. However, Katich was not so convinced. He highlighted the challenges of performing at the top of the order in Test cricket, especially for a 37-year-old batsman.
Concerns about Rohit’s future
Katich, who has also worked as an IPL coach, asked if Rohit had the hunger and desire to continue Test cricket.
“Only he knows if he’s hungry and if he’s driving at 37 to be able to go again,” Katich said. “England will not be an easy series. They have good young fast players. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are fine.”
Katich also highlighted the tough conditions India will face in England. “I dare say it will be a tough tour if he decides to go on it and the Indian selectors pick him first. Those numbers don’t make for pretty reading. Test cricket is no place for 37-year-olds at the top of the order. History suggests that and only Rohit Sharma knows if he is hungry to continue.”
