Rangers can repeat their Prso masterclass in a deal for an “impressive” gem
Glasgow Rangers stars Hamza Igamane and Danilo proved it Philippe Clement he has two strikers to rely on during tough games, especially after Thursday’s win over the Old Firm.
Igamane may not have made it into the scorers, but his relentless nature and ability to cause problems for the Celtic defence he did a handful, especially since none of the opponents had played against him before.
Danilo may have only come off the bench with ten minutes to go, but it took him less than a minute to score the third goal for Svijetloplave and seal the famous triumph.
The pair’s performances mean Cyriel Dessers has dropped out, which is not seen as a bad thing among the Ibrox faithful.
Having a wide repertoire of centre-forwards has helped managers win many trophies in the past. Think of Walter Smith who had Ally McCoist, Mark Hateley and Gordon Durie in his squad or Dick Advocaat who used Michael Mols, Rod Wallace and Billy Dodds to great effect.
Alex McLeish was no different. Shota Arveladze, Ronald De Boer, Mols and Peter Lovenkrands have all come and gone under the Scot, but perhaps Dado Pršo had the biggest impact at Ibrox.
Dada Prša’s Rangers statistics
Season 2003/04. it was anticlimactic, especially after the triple success of the previous year. Finances at Ibrox were not great, meaning McLeish had to cut costs during the summer of 2003, relying on free transfers rather than spending money.

A trophyless campaign followed, but it was clear that the manager was trying to build a solid first team squad for the 2004/05 season. First, Signed by Jean-Alain Boumsong pre-contract in December 2003, but it was a similar deal for another European that would turn heads.
In May 2004, McLeish announced that the Light Blues negotiated a deal to sign AS Monaco forward Dada Prša when his contract with the French giants expired.
He was a player who played in the Champions League final and was supposed to represent Croatia at Euro 2004. It was a big statement of intent for the Light Blues and the move paid off handsomely, especially during his first season.
The Croatian striker created a wonderful striking partnership with Nacho Nova. Duo “small and large” scored a total of 46 goals between them as Rangers not only won the League Cup but wrestled the title back from Celtic after a dramatic final day of the season.
Prso continued to shine the following season, scoring a wonderful acrobatic effort against Celtic earlier in the campaign, but the Gers again failed to lift the trophy.
The 2006/07 season proved to be his last term in professional football as he retired following a knee injury. In spite of playing only 124 games for the club and scoring 37 goals, Pršo is still talked about today.
Since then, the Light Blues have had an affinity for Croatian players, as Nikica Jelavić, Niko Kranjčar, Borna Barišić, Nikola Katic and Antonio Čolak have since turned out for the Glasgow side.
Maybe Clement wants to add to this list? Since the Gers recently showed interest in the Croatian midfielder, they want to repeat their master class at Prso.
Rangers could land the next Prso
According to the report of reporter Ižak Ante Sučić for Germanijak, at the beginning of this week, the Ibrox team showed interest in Varaždin midfielder Leon Belcar.
Club Brugge and AZ Alkmaar are also keen to lure the player away from their homeland, with the report stating that he is under contract until 2026, meaning any interested side will have to pay a transfer fee to secure his signature.
President of the club claims no official offers have been made, but it may take an offer of around €700k (£580k) to sign him, which is certainly within the club’s budget, despite their financial woes.
With so many Croatian players enjoying a lot of success at Rangers, could Belcar be the next to enjoy a productive period in Scottish football?
This season’s statistics of Leon Belcar
The strongest area of the current Rangers team is the midfield. Nicolas Raskin, Mohamed Diomande, Connor Barron and Ianis Hagi have been impressive in recent months.
So why sign Belcar? Well, for one thing, he would add solid strength to the depth of the side, especially since an injury or two could affect the entire midfield.
Not only that, but the player is still only 22, which suggests he still has a lot of development to do, something he could achieve at Ibrox with regular game time and constant exposure to European football.
Defensive midfielder has represented in all but one his club’s HNL game this term, scoring three times in the process. Temperament may be an issue given he has picked up six yellow cards in that time, but that will improve with age.
In the Croatian top, Belcar an average of 1.4 fights1.1 interceptions and won a total of 4.4 duels per game – a success rate of 58% – indicating how effective he is off the ball in the heart of midfield.

Despite operating in a deeper position, the youngster still managed to create three big chances while succeeding on 54% of his dribble attempts. This mix of attacking and defensive ability could make him an instant hit at Ibrox if he makes the move.
Hello to to be “really impressive” by the founder of Rangers Journal Kai Watson amid links with Rangers, Belcar could prove to be the next young talent to make a name for himself at the club.
Given the impact Croatian players have had in Glasgow over the years, especially Prso, Ibrox fans would love to add another to the squad.
A lot will depend on the finances and whether Clement will be able to move the deadwood out of the club, but if a deal is done, it would certainly turn into a really wise investment for the Belgian.
