President-elect Trump nominates Olivia Trusty to be FCC commissioner
Republican Senate aide Olivia Trusty has been selected as a commissioner for Federal Communications Commission (FCC)announced President-elect Trump at the Truth Social on Thursday afternoon, securing a Republican majority within the agency.
Trusty currently serves as a professional member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Before that, she was the policy director of the Senate Commerce Committee, where she “fought tirelessly to grow the economy, empower innovation and reignite the American dream,” Trump wrote in the post.
The FCC will have a 2-2 ratio Democrats and Republicans until it is confirmed by the Senate.
“Olivia will work with our incredible new FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr, to cut regulations at a record pace, protect free speech, and ensure that every American has access to affordable, high-speed Internet,” Trump wrote.
Carr was originally appointed to the commission in 2017 during Trump’s first term and continued to work for the agency under President Biden, Fox News Digital previously reported.
Trusty served on the staff of Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Rep. Bob Latte, R-Ohio.
She served on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, focusing on manufacturing and commerce, as well as digital commerce and consumer protection.
Between graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earning a master’s degree from Georgetown University, Trusty worked in government relations consultant for Verizon and a policy representative at Qwest Communications, according to LegiStorm.
Comcast Chief Legal Officer Tom Reid released a statement after the nomination, saying, “We congratulate President-elect Trump on this strong election.”

“Olivia Trusty’s extensive knowledge of communications policy makes her an exceptional choice as FCC Commissioner“, Reid wrote. “We look forward to working with her and the full FCC to address the nation’s critical communications needs, including investments in broadband and deregulation.”
ACA Connects, a trade group representing small and medium-sized independents telecommunication companiesalso issued a statement following Trusty’s selection.
