Tim David’s explosive half-century led the Hobart Hurricanes to a five-wicket victory over the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes recovered from a shaky start thanks to David’s heroics in the middle overs to secure their fourth win in five games.
Hurricanes start fast
The Hurricanes got off to a quick start, thanks to an aggressive opening partnership between Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade. The duo added 61 runs in just 28 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Owen was particularly destructive, smashing three consecutive sixes off Jamie Overton in the fourth over.
However, Lloyd Pope brought the Strikers back into the game by dismissing Owen for 37 off 16 balls. Wade followed soon after, falling for 27 off 18 as he tried to clean up Cameron Boyce. The Hurricanes, who were cruising once, found themselves at 101/4 by the 11th over.
The heroism of Tim David
With the borders drying up, Tim David took matters into his own hands. He targeted Overton in the 15th over, smashed three sixes and a four to take 26 runs from the over. David completed his half-century in just 22 balls, showcasing his explosive batting.
Team David and Nikhil Chaudhary stitched a vital 75-run stand for the fifth wicket to halt the Hurricanes’ chase. Chaudhary contributed a steady 22 off 22 balls before his exit, but David made sure there were no slips.
With just 11 runs needed from the last two overs, David hit a six off Brendan Doggett to ease the pressure and Chris Jordan sealed the win with a boundary. David finished unbeaten with a blistering 62 off just 28 balls, smashing six sixes and three fours as the Hurricanes ended the match with eight balls to spare.
Strikers’ collective strike
Earlier in the day, the Adelaide Strikers posted a competitive total of 186/5, thanks to valuable contributions from Chris Lynn and Alex Ross. Lynn’s quickfire 49 off 27 balls, including five fours and three sixes, gave the Strikers a solid start.
Ross played a vital role in the middle overs, scoring 47 off 29 balls. He shared a stand of 64 runs with Ollie Pope before being brilliantly caught by Mitchell Owen. Overton’s breezy 27 not out off 18 deliveries ensured the Strikers finished well, adding 41 runs in the last four overs.
