Federal, state and local law enforcement officials are on alert in Washington, DC President-elect Donald Trump January 20 inauguration.

Thousands of officers and agents from the Department of Homeland Security, the DC Metropolitan Police Department, the US Capitol Police, the FBI, the US Secret Service and the National Guard will be on duty.

White House inaugurations are already typically among the highest levels of security, but this year’s event is guaranteed to have extra scrutiny after multiple recent security incidents.

Just this month, a US military veteran used fireworks and other items to set off an explosion Tesla Cybertruck in front of Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas. US Capitol Police also arrested a man who tried to set a car on fire near where mourners were paying their respects to former President Jimmy Carter.

This happened after two thwarted assassination attempts on the newly elected president while he was campaigning for a second term.

Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser said confidence in the police and told local residents during a press conference exactly one week ago event prepare for road closures.

Matt McCool, special agent in charge of the Secret Service’s Washington field office, said of the security preparations: “The Federal Aviation Administration will announce temporary flight restrictions in and around Washington, DC.”

The US Coast Guard will communicate all maritime restrictions, which will also be linked to the inaugural website. Additional fences and concrete barriers will supplement the fence already around the Capitol for the certification of the election and the funeral of President Carter.

He added that the amount of fencing that will be used for this event is greater than any other special national security event in the past.

David Sundberg of the FBI’s Washington field office said the bureau was not monitoring “any specific or credible threats” for Inauguration Day, but urged people to remain vigilant.

Earlier this month, National Guard said he would send 7,800 troops to the inauguration.

Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith said the city’s police officers would be joined by nearly 4,000 officers from across the country who volunteered to support Inauguration Day.

Thousands of Americans are expected to attend, and all will be shown US Secret Service and other law enforcement officials.

“All participants will be subject to background checks. Certain checkpoints will be set up for members of the public interested in attending the inauguration,” McCool said.
