Player ratings as Pedro keeps the Gunners tied with a penalty

Brighton came from behind to hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in front of their home fans on Saturday night.

Arsenal’s 17-year-old starlet Ethan Nwaneri gave the Gunners an early lead. Fresh from his first Premier League startthe magnificent academy graduate scored his second top-flight goal, forcing the third man to break down the right flank before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Brighton they fought their way back into the contest, taking advantage of poor play from the visitors to win possession in the final third on multiple occasions. However, the wastefulness of the hosts in front of the goal prevented them from punishing Arsenalpoor play in the first half.

Mikel Arteta’s side were not woken from their self-imposed slumber by Brighton’s obvious threat and slept through the start of the second half until the Seagulls earned a spot-kick. Joao Pedro won and converted the penalty in the 61st minute after winning an aerial battle with the wayward William Salib.

The disappointing draw left Arsenal five points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand against the Gunners. Brighton’s fourth unique spin point was enough to help them climb into the top half Premier League table.
