NFL: Tyreek Hill indicates he wants to leave Miami Dolphins after playoff failure | NFL news
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has made it known that he wants to leave the franchise after they failed to reach the NFL playoffs.
Hill did not play in the final quarter of a 32-20 loss to the New York Jets in the final weekend of the regular season.
The 30-year-old missed the postseason for the first time in his career and told reporters, “For me, I just have to do what’s best for me and my family.
“If it’s here or wherever the case may be. I’m getting ready to open that door for myself… I’m leaving. It’s been great playing here, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to do what’s best for my career.
“I’m too much of a competitor to just be out there.”
Hill has two years remaining on the extension he originally signed in 2022.
The Georgia native had his worst season with the Dolphins in 2024, finishing with 959 yards and six touchdowns.
He had just two catches against the Jets, his third game of the season with two or fewer catches.
This disappointing campaign is in stark contrast to his first two with the team, when he secured at least 1,700 yards and 119 catches in 2022 and 2023.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said after the Jets game that Hill’s absence was not injury-related, adding that he did not want to discuss his player’s comments until he spoke with him.
“It would be unfair for me to relate emotions to emotions,” McDaniel said.
“Immediately after a game when your season is over, when you’re fighting to get it extended and with the full belief that you have the ability to make it happen, I’m not going to make a hasty judgment about something that’s a little murky in the heat of the moment for a number of reasons.”
