Newcastle vs Bromley: Preview, Predictions and Lineups
Newcastle United will be looking for an eighth straight win in all competitions when they host League Two side Bromley in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
The Magpies have beaten Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in their last three away games, with that being on Tuesday The first victory in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup over the Gunners bringing them closer to Wembley. With no European football to drain the batteries, Newcastle will be looking at similar success in the FA Cup.
Given their recent scalps, visiting fourth-tier Bromley seems pretty straightforward for Newcastle, but the minnows will be looking to conjure up some of that fabled FA Cup magic during their first-ever third-round tie.
Here 90 minutes a guide to Newcastle against Bromley.

After playing so much football over the Christmas period and with a Premier League game coming up on Wednesday, Eddie Howe will be tempted to rotate most of his starting line-up against Bromley. Ugly players like Lloyd Kelly, Miguel Almiron and William Osula could earn minutes.
Saudi Arabia-linked Martin Dubravka or Odysseas Vlachodimos will start between the two clubs with Nick Pope still sidelined, the former potentially for the Middle East this month. Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles are absent in defence.
Callum Wilson is still in the treatment room with a hamstring problem and Howe confirmed that Alexander Isak, who has scored 14 goals in his last 15 appearances, will get the afternoon off.
Predicted line-up for Newcastle vs Bromley (4-3-3): Vlachodimos; Trippier, Schar, Kelly, Targett; Willock, Longstaff, Miley; Almiron, Osula, Barnes.
Ben Thompson has proved influential for Bromley during the first half of the campaign, with the previously on-loan midfielder signing on a permanent basis ahead of the Newcastle game.
Michael Cheek will be a major source of attacking joy for Bromley, with the 33-year-old netting 14 times this term. He was recently nominated for December’s player of the month in the League Two fans’ vote.
Bromley predicted line-up against Newcastle (3-4-1-2): Smith; Grant, Sowunmi, Reynolds; Imray, Thompson, Arthurs, Odutayo; White; Dennis, Cheek.
Newcastle are likely to field the second division side for Bromley’s visit, but that should have little impact on their progress to the fourth round. With home advantage, bags of confidence and some talented peripheral figures looking to prove a point, there should only be one winner on Sunday.
Bromley will fancy their chances at times to trouble a much-changed Newcastle defence, and the clinical Cheek could be their source of consolation. But Bromley are conceding more than a goal per game in League Two and are likely to be punished by Newcastle’s fortunes.
