New Samsung refrigerators powered by artificial intelligence will enable direct ordering of groceries
Samsung brings grocery shopping capabilities to its artificial intelligence refrigerators.
US shoppers will be able to restock groceries “right from the screen” of their Samsung Bespoke refrigerators thanks to an upcoming feature that combines Samsung’s “proprietary food recognition technology” with Instacart’s product matching program interface (API), company said Thursday.
The feature, which stems from a recently announced “multi-year” partnership between Samsung and the online grocer, will launch on Samsung’s 2025 Bespoke refrigerators “with different types of displays” and its “AI Vision Inside” technology.
It will become available on Samsung’s older AI Family Hub+ refrigerators, provided they have its food recognition technology, also this year, according to Samsung.

The company said existing eligible models will get the feature via an over-the-air update. The schedule for that is still being worked out.
“The combination of Samsung’s core technology and Instacart’s outstanding online grocery shopping platform will be a great example of how the partnership can create a new level of convenience,” Samsung Electronics CEO Jeong Seung Moon said in a statement.
Samsung also described the partnership with Instacart as “the latest step forward in Samsung’s journey to add value to the customer experience by working hand-in-hand with other forward-thinking technology leaders.”
Its “AI Vision Inside” already helps owners track food in their refrigerator. To do this, it relies on cameras and deep learning models, according to the company.

Technology can identify up to more than three dozen food items, while “names and expiration dates of unrecognized food items must be set manually,” according to Samsung.
An upcoming feature will expand “AI Vision from within” by “making it possible to top up via Instacart, straight from the fridge,” it said.
When the feature launches, U.S. owners of Samsung Bespoke refrigerators will need to have a Samsung and Instacart account, as well as Wi-Fi to use it, according to a company press release. They will also need to live in an area where Instacart operates.
The company said the 32-inch AI Family Hub+ and the soon-to-be-launched 9-inch AI Home will be among the custom models debuting in 2025. feature.
