2020 Cuban Olympian Andy Cruz hopes Keyshawn will succeed in his title challenge against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14. Cruz says he wants to take the WBO belt from Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) if he wins it. Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn will be shown on ESPN and ESPN+. The event starts at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 AM PT.
Andy calls Davis “my son” because of his many victories over him. However, he still wants to defeat Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) next month. He says he will watch the fight.
History of domination
It would be Cruz’s fifth win over Keyshawn. His record is perfect 4-0, and has repeatedly called out Davis who has risen to Top Rank since turning pro, but to no avail. Keyshawn doesn’t want to lose again, so he makes excuses.
Even if Davis defeats Berinchyk, he will not defend the WBO title against Cruz. That is the last person he would consider fighting because he knows what will happen if they fight.
That would be like Keyshawn giving away the WBO belt. He has already said what he hopes to do if he gets his hands on the belt. Davis says he wants to use it to lure WBA lightweight champion Gervont Davis into a unification fight. It’s a pipe dream that has no chance of coming true as Tank focuses on fighting popular fighters.
Keyshawn’s excuses for not fighting Andy Cruz
- “He’s not ready yet.” He has no fan base. His entire fan base is built around me.”
- “That man is not trying to fight me. I will knock him out. He’s just not ready.”
- “We have already sent them the contract. I already got on the air with Eddie Hearn and said to arrange the fight. I don’t know what else you want me to do [to make the Andy Cruz fight].
I don’t know how Keyshawn could casually say that Cruz isn’t “ready” to fight him, when he beat him four times in the amateurs and looked better than him in the pros. Davis looked bad in his fights against Nahir Albright and Miguel Maduen. Those are the only two semi-decent fighters Keyshawn has fought since turning pro. The rest were peelings.
