MS Dhoni gives an update on his fitness ahead of IPL 2025

In a candid conversation at Eurogrip’s ‘Tred Talks’, Dhoni admitted, ” I’m not as fit as I used to be, now there’s a lot of work to be done with what you eat and I’m doing very specific things to be ready for cricket”, emphasizing the increased effort required to maintain form.

He emphasized that his fitness regime now focuses heavily on nutrition and cricket-specific exercises, adding, “We are not fast bowlers, so our demands are not that great“. This recognition reflects a reality many athletes face as they age: the need for a more disciplined approach to health and fitness.

Acceptance of different sports for fitness

To cope with the physical demands of cricket, Dhoni has incorporated various sports into his training routine. This multifaceted approach to fitness allows him to enjoy a variety of activities while effectively conditioning his body.

What really helps me is exercising between meals and going to the gym. So, whenever I have time, I like to play many different sports, maybe tennis, badminton, football, which keep me engaged. It’s the best way to stay in touch with fitness“, he explained.

Life after international cricket

Looking back on his life after retirement, Dhoni expressed his satisfaction with his decision to retire from international cricket. He stated, “I thought I would get more time, but unfortunately, I don’t have much time. I don’t miss international cricket because I always believe that you know how to think about everything and then make a decision“.

His focus has shifted to spending quality time with family and friends, enjoying riding his motorcycle, and pursuing leisure activities that bring him joy. The balance between personal life and professional commitments seems to have enriched his overall well-being.

Dhoni’s illustrious career as captain has been marked by numerous achievements: leading India to victory in three ICC limited-overs tournaments and maintaining a 45% win percentage in Test matches. His leadership style – characterized by calmness under pressure – earned him respect on and off the field.
