Midwest state senator revives DOGE-aligned legislation as GOP prepares to take over DC

FIRST ON FOX: Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., is taking the opportunity to renew two key pieces of legislation aligned with an upcoming advisory committee known as Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) now that the GOP controls the Senate.

DOGE previously announced President-elect Donald Trumpwhich chose billionaire Elon Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the charge in eliminating government waste.

The RUBBER Law would target regulations by requiring agencies repeal three rules before issuing any new major rule and ensure that the new rule does not exceed the cost of the repealed rules. The Redistribution of Powers Act (SOPRA) would address the Administrative Procedure Act by repealing executive deference standards and allowing courts to weigh arguments without giving deference to either side.

“Containing an out-of-control administrative state has long been one of my top priorities, and I look forward to working hand-in-hand with the incoming Trump administration [accomplish] the common goal of gutting the administrative state and taking power out of the hands of nameless, faceless bureaucrats and back to the people,” Schmitt told Fox News Digital in a statement.

“The REPEAL Act would require agencies that want to enact a new regulation to take three regulations off the books. And the Separation of Powers Restoration Act would end court deference to agency interpretations of regulations and enact much stricter review, returning power to the people, where and belongs… This is a critical, one-two punch to the bloated administrative state.”

However, with Republicans leading the upper house and an increased focus on government efficiency, the measures are much more likely to pass. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-D., is already expected to vote equally for several other GOP bills that never got time.
