Michael Clarke praises Nitish Reddy’s stunning knock in the MCG Test
Former Australian captain Michael Clarke praised the Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy after the youngster’s exceptional performance in the third league test Granica-Gavaskar Trophy. Playing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Reddy showed his determination and talent with a brilliant first Test century.
Still India lost by a margin of 184 runs, Reddy’s aggressive 114 off 189 balls was the silver lining. Batting at number eight, the 21-year-old showed incredible composure against a relentless onslaught of Australian bowlers to lift India’s first innings total to 369.
“Reddy is a genius,” says Clarke
Clarke could not hide his admiration for Reddy’s potential. “Reddy, this young kid at number eight, is a genius,” he remarked.
The former Australian captain suggested promoting Reddy in the batting order. “I think he definitely needs to hit seven if not six,” Clarke said.
“He was India’s leading scorer, 21 years of age, unbelievable. He is underrated throughout the series.”
Reddy’s versatility impresses Clarke
Clarke highlighted Reddy’s versatility and composure, calling him the complete package. “He impressed everyone. He was not afraid of any Australian bowler. He was patient when he needed to be patient. He kicked extremely well with his tail. He showed his intention. He bats, bowls and bowls,” added Clarke.
With the final Test of the series set to begin at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on January 3, Clarke believes that Reddy deserves a bigger role. “I think he’s good enough to bat at number six. So what a great option for India going into the final Test match,” said the 43-year-old.
Australia’s win at the MCG gave them a 2-1 lead in the series. For India, Reddy’s stellar performance is a rare bright spot as they aim to level the series in Sydney. His consistent performances throughout the series cemented his place as a rising star in Indian cricket.
