Michael Cheika: Chief Coach Leicester Tigers leaving the role when the contract ends up at the end of the season | News of rugby
Leicester main trainer Michael Cheika will leave at the end of the season after deciding not to extend his contract with the club.
Cheika, a former main coach of both Australia and Argentina, joined Leicester at a one -year agreement last June.
“Although disappointed, given the positive influence that Michael has since joined us in the summer, we were always aware that it was a one -year job and we were transparent with players, staff and supporters at that moment,” said Leicester Tigers Executive Director Andrea Pinchen.
“As we said during Michael’s mandate, we would like to extend his time in the role of the main coach, but realized why this could not happen.”
“It is unnecessary for Michael to fully dedicate himself to seeing his time in a successful way as the main coach, he is determined to add silver accessories to the trophy cabinet at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, and we are excited about what remains in this campaign.”
Speculations have already linked the former Leicester opponent and former main coach Graham Rowntre as a potential heir.
In the process of finding Cheika’s replacement, Pinchen added: “Knowing that it is a one -year contract, the club conducted the employment process to find the appropriate replacement of the main coach.”
