Man City lead January transfer spending as Premier League clubs smash last year’s total in the hunt for signings | Football news
Premier League clubs have already doubled their spending compared to last January – and there is still a week to go before the end of the transfer window.
Spending was £116m across the league a year ago – a drop of more than £600m from 2023 – as clubs became wary of breaking profitability and sustainability (PSR) rules.
A year on, however, the total spent in the current window is up to more than £234m, with the most important period coming as teams up and down the Premier League search for mid-season reinforcements ahead of Deadline Day on February 3.
For what is likely to be a dramatic final week of the window, from Monday 27 January to Friday 31 January, Sky Sports News’ flagship program Transfer Show will be broadcast from the Sky Store in London’s Battersea Power Station at 17:00-17:30 and 19:00-20:00.

The biggest consumers so far
They will have to talk because the clubs are still investing.
Manchester City So far the biggest spenders of the window spent more than all Premier League clubs combined last winter, splashing £126.1m on new recruits.
The champions have signed Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for £63.2 million, Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £29.4m, and Abdukodir Khusanov of lentils for £33.5 million.
And the city could still add more signings, with interest in Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luizboth from Juventus, as well as Valladolid’s true teenage full-back Bach.
As we approach the final week of the window, there are plenty of other clubs also looking to do business, including Arsenal,, Chelsea,, Manchester United,, Tottenham and Western ham.
The Gunners are on the hunt for reinforcements and have discussed a potential move for RB Leipzig internally Benjamin Seskowhile Wolves’ Matheus Cunha is also interesting.
Chelsea are considering a move to sign him Alejandro Garnacho While Manchester United looks to raise funds to invest in Ruben Amorim’s team, with Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu goal and potential Christopher Nkunku.
Meanwhile, West Ham are in talks to sign the striker Andre Silva from RB Leipzig, has already seen a big offer for John Duran rejected by Aston Villa.
