Man City have announced the signing of Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £29.4 million

Manchester City confirmed signing Palmeiras central defender Vitor Reis.

Reis, 19, has attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs but City have moved aggressively at the start of the transfer window to make the Brazilian a key part of their defensive overhaul.

Uzbekistan International Abdukodir Khusanov recently completed a £33.6m move from Lens and Reis has now followed him out the door for a reported £29.4m.

“I’m excited to join Manchester Cityone of the biggest clubs in the world,” he told the club’s media. “Everyone has seen incredible achievements in recent seasons and I want to leave my mark as we look for more trophies.

“Working with Pep Guardiola is something every young player wants and I know he can help me develop into the best player I can be.

“City also have a lot of experience working with Brazilian footballers and having the likes of Ederson and Savinho join the team will be a big help for me.”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Vitor Reis is one of the most promising young defenders in the world and we are delighted to have been able to bring him here.

“In his short time in senior football in Brazil, he has shown that he has the ability to go very far in the game and we know that working with Pep and our coaches will help us get the best out of him. He is excellent on the ball and outstanding in the air – he has it all attributes needed to be one of the best.

“Vitor is very young, but his quality is so high that we believe he can help us now and long into the future.”
