Malaysian court grants jailed former prime minister Najib’s request to see document it says authorizes house arrest Reuters

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Court of Appeal on Monday granted jailed former prime minister Najib Razak’s request to receive a document he said would allow him to serve the rest of his prison sentence at home.

Najib, who has been jailed over the multibillion-dollar 1MDB scandal, appealed a lower court ruling in July last year that rejected his request to confirm his existence and enforce a royal order he said would have entitled him to house arrest .

He claimed the former Malaysian king had issued an “additional order” to the pardons board’s decision in February last year to halve his jail term for bribery in the 1MDB scandal to six years from 12. It is not clear if the document exists.
