Liverpool eyeing £17m star who has reached ‘second level’

In ancient times, Liverpool fans had hopes that he would sign a contract with Borussia Dortmund Jude Bellingham and strengthening Jurgen Kloppmidfield with one of football’s prized pieces.

Instead, the English sensation now works for Real Madrid, one of Europe’s most talented players and conquerors Champions League and La Liga titles last year. Trent Alexander-Arnold he might join him at the Bernabeu this year, but let’s forget about that for now.

Liverpool progress below Arne Slott but needs to make a few signings during the two-year transfer window after only bringing in Federico Chiesa in the summer, signing Juventus’ versatile striker for a bargain £12.5m.

Although it is not a priority position, the Reds are attentive to movements in the midfield market and could look like Premier League rivals are preparing to move for a player who offers similarities to the previously profiled Bellingham.

Liverpool are eyeing the talented midfielder

According to Caught OffsideArsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have led the race to sign Bundesliga talent Enzo Millot, recently sending scouts to watch the Stuttgart star in action.

Millot, 22, has grown into his own skin this term and has found success in a myriad of positions, showing the kind of tactical dynamism that marks a future at the elite level.

Suitors such as Liverpool – who are among those said to be ‘monitoring his development’ – are flocking to the attractive €20m (£17m) release clause in the Frenchman’s contract.

There was interest last summer but he continued his development in Germany, however now is the time for Premier League clubs to strike as he has made significant gains and Liverpool must ensure they land a potential superstar in the making.

Why Liverpool are interested in Enzo Millot

After making exciting strides on the big stage over the past few years, Millot is shaping up to be a key part of Stuttgart’s starting line-up.

Last year he freed himself from the shackles of the “prospectus,” scoring 17 goals in 35 appearances, honing his clinical sharpness.

Although the native Frenchman has not been as creative this term, he has still maintained impressive results, he scored eight goals and recorded five assists through 24 matches in all competitions.

His tactical dynamism is something that will surely intrigue Liverpool. Slot manages a healthy and balanced engine room that usually enjoys the elegance of Ryan Gravenberch, the multi-faceted quality of Alexis Mac Allister and the industrious energy of Dominik Szoboszlai.

Millot could house the last piece. He’s young enough not to demand a permanent spot in the starting line-up, while clinical enough to impress when called upon.

He was also riding the crest of a wave in the Champions League. Stuttgart may be languishing below the promotion zone, but he has shown athletic and creative qualities, no doubt crucial in furthering the interest of some Premier League powerhouses.

FBref recorded Millot’s statistical results, with his wealth which ranks him among some of the best European midfieldersincluding Bellingham.

Why Millot could be Slott’s own Bellingham

A powerful dribbler and a mobile presence in midfield, Millot uses his slender yet bulky frame to great effect in Stuttgart’s midfield, something that Real Madrid’s outstanding centerpiece does brilliantly.

His head coach Sebastian Hoeneß praised him as he is on “another level” as his side beat Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga earlier in the campaign.

According to Sofascorethe youngster has averaged 4.3 successful tackles per top-flight contest this term, while also completing 54% of his dribbles, speaking of a tactical range that really lines up neatly with Bellingham’s.

Bellingham might be the headline stealer for his efforts up front, but his underlying metrics also play out similarly, averaging 5.9 tackles and 1.9 tackles per La Liga match this term, Sofascore againsomething that sets him apart from the crowd.

Clearly, Millot does not play at a higher level than the almighty Bellingham, whose big-play aura and confidence combine with a superior technical level that has led him to be hailed as “the gift of football”. Los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti.

But when we look at their metrics in the 2024/25 season (above), it’s interesting to note that Millot is more creative and progressive, also more skilled on the ball, as evidenced by his superior attack success rate.

A successful takeover is scored when a player beats his opponent by passing the ball directly past him, retaining possession.

That’s not to say, of course, that Bellingham isn’t capable of leaving defenders chewing the dirt while he rebounds with a powerful, animal-like gait.

Liverpool have to do this. Millot is a real star in the making and an affordable price. Given that FSG will need to strengthen some more pressing areas of the pitch this year, for just £17m, this could be a steal for England’s most successful team at the moment.
