Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown wants changes to the NFL playoff format before the No. 1 seed game
For first time in NFL historya 14-win team will have to settle for a wild-card spot in the NFL playoffs.
Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikingsboth 14-2, will face off Sunday night for both the NFC North crown and the top seed in the conference.
The loser will drop to the fifth seed in the series with the top wild card spot despite a 14-win season.

It wouldn’t be the first strange occurrence in the playoffs. There were 7-9 teams that won divisions, meaning they automatically hosted playoff games.
But with his team in danger of losing just three games, but not at home on wild card weekend, Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown says that the format needs to be renewed.
“It’s crazy. I think the rule should be changed,” said St. Brown to reporters this week. “Obviously, if you win the division, obviously you should clinch a playoff spot, but to have a 14-win team that has to go on the road is kind of crazy. But I guess I don’t make the rules.”

The NFL and MLB have similar formats where the top seeds get a bye and all division winners get home field advantage in the first round. The NBA seeds based on conference standings regardless of division, while the NHL does a combination of conference and division standings, but without the playoffs.
St. Brown says his team has nothing to worry about anyway.
“Either way, I think we’ll be fine. Whether we go on the road or have a bye and play at home, we’re built for either or,” he said.
