Lily-Rose Depp was ‘petrified’ after watching an early Johnny Depp film

Lily-Rose Depp is still giddy with fear watching one of her father’s most famous films.

Daughter of Johnny Depp (25) stars in the supernatural thriller “Nosferatu,” but still harbors challenging feelings about one particular ’90s film on his dad’s lengthy resume: “Edward Scissorhands.”

The film directed by Tim Burton was released in 1990 and focuses on the life of the unfinished humanoid Edward (Johnny Depp), whose scissor blades instead of hands make it difficult to assimilate into suburban life.

I was traumatized by it, Depp said Harper’s Bazaar. “Not because I thought he was scary, but because everyone was so mean to him, and I got really upset. I remember being petrified about it, which is weird, because I don’t have a lot of memories of being like that young.”

She added: “It’s a hard childhood memory. Edward’s a good guy and Nosferatu’s a bad guy in a way, but there’s a part of me that feels a little bit of empathy for Nosferatu. I mean, am I sick of feeling that way?”

“I remember being petrified by it, which is strange because I don’t have many memories from when I was that young.”

Depp stars as Ellen Hutter in Robert Eggers’ remake of “Nosferatu,” which was inspired by Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula.” Ellen has a psychic connection with the vampire Nosferatu.

When asked if Lily-Rose and her father – who has long worked with Tim Burton on the supernatural scene – share an affinity for the genre, the supermodel admitted that there is comfort in goth culture.

“Of course you could say that,” Depp said. “We’re very different actors, but of course you’re a product of your environment, and that’s a world I’ve always been very interested in.”

“Every job comes with a set of circumstances, including this one [fame] is kind of one of them,” Depp recently told Daily Telegraph. “It was important for me to keep a sense of privacy and groundedness and to protect [what] it really belongs to you.”

She added: “People are interested in things that they shouldn’t necessarily be interested in and … the job of an actor is to get into a character and, like, blend in with them and make the audience believe that you are that character.

“In order to do that, it’s important to protect the feeling of anonymity. They shouldn’t get to know you so well, because you want them to trust you as other characters.”

Depp has starred in numerous films, including “Crisis,” “Voyagers,” “Silent Night” and “The Wolf.” Last year she was the main host HBO series “Idol” along with Abel Tesfaye, better known as singer The Weeknd.

“The internet seems to care a lot about that sort of thing,” she said. “People will have preconceived ideas about you or how you got there, and I can definitely say that nothing will get you that role unless you’re right for the role.

“The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than people who label you as something. You might get in the door, but you’re still just standing in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.”
