Now liberal parents are clashing their conservative sons after the election, according to a New York Times article published Sunday.
“When Eli brought his ‘Make America Great Again’ hat home from college this summer, [Alex] Behr threw it in the corner of his bedroom. They fought over guns, immigration and abortion, struggling to do so without permanently damaging their relationship.” he read the article.
It continues, “‘facts don’t matter to you,’ [Alex] In a moment of frustration, Behr wrote about the legal battles of Mr. Trump. ‘I love you. Have a nice day.”
In a twist from the old dynamics liberal struggling kids with her conservative parents, Callie Holtermann wrote that some progressive mothers struggle with how to handle their sons voting for President Donald Trump.

“Some liberal parents aren’t so sure they should try to intervene,” she wrote. “Many see their sons’ embrace of Mr. Trump as an expected act of rebellion or the choice of an independent young adult they should respect. To others, it feels like a painful rejection of the values they’ve tried to instill in their children.”
“I had to do a lot of soul-searching and reading about it so I wouldn’t feel like I failed as a mom,” Alex Behr told the New York Times.
Although the majority of young voters still voted for Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump got a significant lead with the youth vote and won 53% of men aged 18-44, according to an analysis of Fox News voters.

Some parents pointed to social media and online conservative influencers for promoting right-wing political beliefs that appeared to have “validated [their] fears and vulnerabilities as [they were] aging in [their] masculinity.”
“I was wondering, who is holding my son?” Melanie Morlan told the New York Times.

One young man, Max Sorokin, argued that the change was reinforced Failure of the Democratic Party appeal to its demographics.
“They didn’t even try to get the young men to sympathize with them,” he said. “They kind of ignored them.”
His father, Alexei, was critical of his son’s new views, although he described how he had become frustrated with some of the Democratic Party’s censorship.

I told my son, look, you are privileged,’ said Alexei Sorokin. “You don’t feel fragile because you’re young, healthy, and white.”

Most parents eventually chose to continue loving their sons, in direct opposition to advice from liberal commentators.
I always tell him, ‘I could be worried about you and I could be sad because I don’t think you understand some things that maybe you will understand later,'” Melanie Morlan said. “‘But I’ll love you more when you have problems, because that’s just politics'”
