Leader of Canadian Conservatives interrupts reporter’s question about other genders: ‘I’m only aware of 2’
When pressed about President Donald Trump’s executive order rejecting transgender ideology, Canada’s Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre challenged a reporter to name any gender other than “male and female.”
On his first day in office, Trump declared: “As of today, the official policy of the government of the United States will be to exist only two genders, male and female.” The executive order, “Defending Women from Extremism of Gender Ideology and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” was part of a series of reforms against the excesses of far-left identity politics in the US government.
CP24 News Anchor Phil Perkins talked about the executive order while interviewing Poilievre, a politician who many believe most likely replace current Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The host asked, “If you’re elected prime minister, are you going to follow through on that? Or what do you think about that executive order?”
“Well, I don’t know. Do you have any other genders you’d like to name?” asked Poilievre dryly.
The host repeated his question: “I’m just asking more if you agree with what he’s saying. Do you agree with what he’s saying? Is that something you would agree with if you were elected prime minister?”
“Well, I’m not aware of any gender other than male and female. I mean, if you have any other that you want me to consider, feel free to tell me right now,” the Canadian Conservative leader said.
“Well, there’s … well, there’s … Personally, I’m a man,” Perkins tried to explain, saying some would refer to him as a “cis-man.”
“Me too. I’m a man too,” Poilievre replied, adding, “We have something in common.”
“You’re a man, yes,” Perkins said. “There are people out there who say they’re gender neutral, uhh, they’re trans. Is that something you would recognize here? Whereas in the United States, at least with their American government, the way they see it, there’s only two?”
“I’m only aware of two, but, I mean, if you have — if you come up with another list, feel free to do it. But I’m aware of two,” Poilievre responded. “And as far as I’m concerned, we should have a government that just minds its own damn business and leaves the people alone.”
When asked by news anchor on whether passports with other gender identities should be recognized, Canada’s Conservative leader said there are far more pressing questions.
“I have to be honest with you. I just saw your segment about homeless encampments popping up all over Toronto. We have 25% of our population in poverty, housing costs have doubled, crime is rampant on our streets, I just find it a strange priority to spend time talking about this,” Poilievre said.
He went on to detail what he prefers to focus on to improve lives citizens of Canada.
“My priority is to put people back in control of their lives and restore Canada’s promise that everyone who works hard gets a strong wage and a pension that buys affordable food, fuel and homes in safe neighborhoods. That’s the promise we need for Canadians,” Poilievre said.
“If the Liberals want to talk about the different gender markers they want to put on passports in the United States, they can do that. I’ll talk about the things that the Canada Promise will deliver,” he added.

Trump’s executive order invites that passports and all government-issued ID cards “accurately reflect the bearer’s gender,” reversing the Biden administration’s decision to allow an “X” as a gender marker.
