Lauren Price vows to win every round against rival champion Natasha Jonas: ‘I’m too good!’ | Boxing news
Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price faced each other on the set of the new edition The gloves are off ahead of the world title unification on March 7.
Jonas and Price will fight for the WBC, IBF and WBA welterweight titles at the Royal Albert Hall, live Sky Sports.
Price, an Olympic gold medalist and WBA belt holder, told Jonas directly that she expects to win every round of their contest.
The Welsh star has yet to drop a round in his professional career and is looking to continue that streak in his next fight.
“I believe that,” Price said Sky Sports after.
She added: “I believe it’s my hardest test. It’s just another stepping stone. I believe I’m too good and too fast.”
Jonas, however, rejected that proposal.
“It doesn’t matter until we’re in the ring,” Jonas said. “She keeps saying these things. But you put pressure on yourself to confirm it.
“You’re not going to lose a round? Okay, okay, what happens when the first round goes by and you lose it? What are you going to do then, because you said you’re not going to lose a round? What happens then in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth round ?
“I would have expected you to win every round for the opposition she had.”
Jonas insisted that Price’s claim actually betrays a lack of confidence.
“Yes. I think she has to tell herself that to believe it herself. To say, ‘Okay, I’ve got this,'” said the Liverpool man. “You try to convince yourself.
“I just think you’re picking yourself up. You’re telling yourself, ‘I can do it.’ That is what I believe she is doing.
“I won’t buy it.”
