Jose Mourinho: Reported Everton target ‘no different’ to Sean Dyche, says Paul Merson | Football news
I am a big fan of Jose Mourinho. He’s been an incredible manager over the years, one of the greatest of all time, but I don’t see how this Everton job ticks the box.
Everton are in a big, big relegation battle. I don’t think it’s up to them and Ipswich to go down. Mourinho needs to be higher in the league than hanging around bottom five.
I just don’t see how Mourinho is any different from Sean Dyche. I don’t see any difference in that. He is a big name in football, but I would be careful with him.
They don’t score a lot of goals, but it’s not like Mourinho will come in and they’ll be free.
He had the best Chelsea team of all time and they were not free. Wins 1-0, 2-0 every week, never concedes a goal, but Dyche doesn’t concede too many goals either. It’s strange to me. I think the owners want a big football name.
If Dyche gets sacked tomorrow morning, and any job comes up in the top three or four in the league, he’d get it because if anyone wants to get you out of trouble, it’s Dyche.
If you’re going to bring in someone to take Dyche’s place, you need to bring in someone with thick skin, like Mourinho. You have to bring in someone who will do it their way, but there aren’t many.
I have a lot of respect for Dyche because he does it his own way and doesn’t listen to the audience or think he has to phase. He says: ‘This is my team and we will be hard to beat’.
They played against three of the biggest teams in the country, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City and drew three. But then in the next minute they go away and lose at home to Nottingham Forest and then to Bournemouth. Instead of three undefeated, it becomes four and five without a win.
