Jasprit Bumrah breaks Bishan Singh Bedi’s away series record
Jasprit Bumrah set a new benchmark for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in an away Test series, surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi’s record of 31 wickets from the 1977-78 tour of Australia. Bumrah was unable to bowl on the final day of the fifth Test due to back spasms, where India suffered a six-wicket defeat.
Australia made 162 runs to secure victory. The defeat eliminated India from contention for the World Test Cup final, which will be played between Australia and South Africa in June.
Bumrah played 45 Tests and took 205 wickets, including 13 five-wicket hauls. He is expected to have a short break before the upcoming series against England, ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
He single-handedly ensured that the series was alive till the last day – Wasim Jaffer
Wasim Jaffer and Harsha Bhogle expressed their admiration for Bumrah’s performance during the series. Jaffer said that every time he bowled, Australian cricket fans held their breath until the ball was safely played. Bhogle described watching Bumrah’s bowling as an unforgettable experience in his media career.
“Each time Bumrah has been on top in this series, Aus cricket fans have held their breath and released it only after the ball was safely bowled. Rarely have they seen a cricketer dominate the Aussie psyche so much. He gave everything he had and secured himself to keep the series alive till the last day,” tweeted Wasim Jaffer.
