Jasprit Bumrah achieves historic milestone despite India’s 3-1 defeat in BGT 2024-25
India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was named the player of the series for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), making history as the first Indian player to achieve this feat in three SENA countries. Meanwhile, Australia secured the series 3-1, sealing their victory with a dominant six-wicket victory in Sydney.
Bumrah was absent during the fourth innings of the fifth Test against Australia due to back spasms. Despite this, he was the man of the series, finishing with 32 wickets in nine innings at an impressive average of 13.06, and three five-wicket hauls.
The 31-year-old also made history by surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi’s 47-year-old record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in an away Test series.
His outstanding performance earned him the well-deserved Man of the Series award, making him the only Indian cricketer to achieve this feat against three SENA nations.
Bumrah won the prestigious honor during India’s 2022-23 tour of England, where he took 23 wickets in five matches. He also won the award during the 2023-24 India tour South Africataking 12 wickets in two games.

India stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah has reflected on his decision not to bowl during the fourth innings of the fifth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, stressing the need to listen to and respect his body’s limits. Speaking on conference after the gameThe 31-year-old, who was named player of the series, said:
“A bit frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body and you can’t fight your body. Sometimes you have to accept it. I would love to bowl on the spiciest wicket in the series. I just had a bit of discomfort after the first innings.”
“The chat was about belief. The other bowlers also stepped up in the first innings. This morning the conversation was also about belief. Lots of ifs and buts. The whole series was well fought. We were there today too. It was a good series,” he added.
Bumrah represented India in 45 Tests, taking 205 wickets, including 13 five-wicket hauls.
