Inspirational amputee fighter Jake Peacock returns to action on February 20 when he takes on Shinji Suzuki at the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar.
Suzuki and Peacock were originally scheduled to face each other in November, but the fight was postponed when that bill was rescheduled. Their muay thai fight will now take place on the same schedule as Jonathan Haggerty vs. Wei Rui ONE world kickboxing bantamweight title fight, live Sky Sports.
The peacock is missing its right arm and forearm. But he’s looking to prove he’s a world-class Muay Thai practitioner after winning his ONE Championship debut in style in April.
“I told you it was going to be a spectacular show and a debut to watch and it certainly was. I was very pleased with the performance. I enjoyed it. I probably enjoyed it a little too much,” Peacock said. Sky Sports.
“I loved every moment.
“I’m at the top of the sport and I just wanted to soak it all in.”
“I wanted to enjoy every minute and I did.”
But he intends to show a crushing result against Suzuki.
“Mark my words, this next fight has to be business. I’ve got to get in there, I’m going to finish this guy within two rounds. I’m going to grab the mic and go look for a name in the top 10,” he said.
“He beat some decent guys. His last opponent was Han Zi Hao who was right there with everyone.
“I respect him. I respect his skill. I respect anyone I’m going to face. But I think I’m on a different level than him. I think that will show right away in the fight.
“I have to go in there and make a statement, shut up all the doubters out there and move on.”
Peacock’s performances, as someone who can only fight with one hand, send a message in themselves.
“I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing, proving people wrong, proving doubters wrong and inspiring others,” he said.
“I get lots and lots of messages all the time from people all over the world who are struggling in life, or missing a limb or some kind of battle they’re going through, messages of encouragement that I send them strength to push on and I inspire and motivate them.”
Carrillo gets an interim title fight
Scotsman Nico Carrillo will fight next January 24 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, live on Sky Sports.
He was supposed to box Superlek Kiatmoo9, until a knee injury forced the Thai to withdraw from the card.
Carrillo will now fight rising star Nabil Anane for the ONE Interim Muay Thai bantamweight title.
The winner will then face Superlek for the full world title at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on March 23rd.
