Jake Fraser-McGurk put Melbourne Renegades in a strong position during their must win game against Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL) Season 2024-25. However, Jake Fraser-McGurk failed to get the century he deserved Matt Renshaw took a sensational catch at long-off in a recent match.
After a tough season, the young sensation played a sensational knock for the Renegades as they chased down 197 against the Heat. The 22-year-old reached 22-1 and quickly dominated the experienced Heat’s bowling attack. He cleared the boundary on several occasions and reached half a century.

The young batsman came close to becoming only the second player in Melbourne Renegades history to score a Big Bash century. However, Jake Fraser-McGurk fell to 95 off 46 balls, with five fours and eight sixes.
Xavier Bartlett dismissed the right-handed batsman as Matt Renshaw took a spectacular catch of the long ball. Renshaw sprinted to the right and completed an overhead grab, careful not to slip on the ropes. It was a brilliant display of fielding that kept Brisbane Heat in the contest.
The Big Bash League’s official account on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a clip of Jake Fraser-McGurk’s dismissal with the caption, “Don’t be serious! Jake Fraser-McGurk comes THIS CLOSE to first BBL century 😱 #BBL14”.

The Renegades successfully chased down the target of 197 with two overs to spare, moving off the bottom of the BBL table. This win improved their net result to positive, keeping alive their hopes of a miraculous performance in the finals.
Earlier, Jack Wood, who scored 45 off 27 balls, was the top scorer for the Heat. Matt Renshaw, who hit 40 off 22 balls, including three consecutive sixes off Sutherland, and Tom Alsop also contributed with a quickfire 42 off 26 balls.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, man of the match, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, adding that everyone contributed to the win. Fraser-McGurk noted that cricket can be unpredictable. He hoped that the team would continue with good performances and qualify further, and thanked the fans for their support.
“We’re happy with the way we turned up today. Everyone contributed today and hopefully we can get a few results. I just wanted to start, give the bowlers some charge early,” Fraser-McGurk said.
“Cricket is a game where you can have a terrible day but you’re always two strikes away from turning it around. Hopefully we can qualify further, thanks to the fans who turned up today. Hopefully we can continue to play for them this season” , he added.
Melbourne Renegades have played all 10 of their league games in the ongoing tournament. The Renegades are currently in fourth place with eight points after four wins in 10 matches.
