Hardik Pandya has been a valuable asset for India in white-ball cricket
Pandya has been a valuable asset to the Indian national cricket team. Injury problems kept him out of Test cricket, but he was a key player for the team in ODIs as well as T20Is. He performed consistently for the team with bat and ball.
It is fair to say that Pandya comes best in T20Is as he is the MVP of the team in the format. On the other hand, he has contributed decently to the team in ODIs as well, but has not played much 50-over cricket as he has played the shortest format of the game.
Hardik Pandya’s last ODI outing came during the 2023 ICC World Cup
Pandya’s last ODI outing came during the ICC World Cup 2023. However, he got injured midway through the tournament and was ruled out. After that, he did not play a single match in the format for India and also sat out the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka due to personal reasons while playing T20Is during the same tour.
Pandya was a regular in the T20 line-up as he also played for Baroda in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, he did not feature in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy for all the matches. The all-rounder only played a few games and then retired without any clarity around him.
Hardik Pandya can be seen in action during the five-match T20I series against England
Pandya will now be seen in action during the five-match T20I series against the England cricket team. The all-rounder will play under the guidance of Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel, who has been appointed as the team’s co-captain in the format.
India’s squad for ODI series against England cricket team and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is yet to be announced. With reports emerging that the all-rounder is unsure about the 50-over format, there are chances that he won’t be part of the squad in the format.
Also, with the emergence of Nitish Kumar Reddy, the Indian national cricket team has a backup if Hardik Pandya does not play. The former played a huge role for the team in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. and it will not be a surprise if he is also included in the ODI squad.
