With the January transfer window now open, Fulham reportedly fear Marseille could rekindle their interest in Pereira and secure the Brazilian’s signature this month. And they are not the only supposedly interested club. Recently reports indicate that Brazilian club Fluminense are making progress in negotiations to sign a midfielder, which would be a huge blow this month.
That fear seems to have led them straight to a potential replacement. According to Football Insider, Fulham are now considering signing Will Hughes which could be without any cost if he leaves Crystal Palace as a free agent at the end of the season.
But the London club are not the only interested parties, West Ham United and local rivals Brentford are also monitoring the situation. A player with plenty of Premier League experience, the interest in Hughes’ signature should come as no surprise.
From a business point of view, selling Pereira for an impressive fee and welcoming a possible replacement in the summer without having to run out themselves could represent a wise move for everyone involved at Fulham.
“Leader” Hughes could easily replace Pereira
More combative than the elegant Pereira, Hughes would immediately step in for the Brazilian at Craven Cottage and sit alongside Alex Iwobi and Saša Lukić. Forming a tireless three midfield, Silva’s side could even benefit from swapping the old for the new while cashing in wisely.
