DJ Johnson of the Panthers will miss the final game of the season after being involved in a car accident
Carolina Panthers linebacker DJ Johnson will miss the final game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons this weekend after being involved in a car accident, head coach Dave Canales confirmed Friday.
Johnson, 26, is marked out Friday’s injury report because of a personal matter.
The team did not provide details, but Canales confirmed to reporters that it was related to the car accident.

“We were kind of gathering information over the course of last night and morning actually. There was a traffic accident,” Canales said.
“That’s about all I know about it. Enough to the point that he’s being evaluated right now.”

A team spokesman said The Athletic’s Joe Person Johnson was involved in a car accident in Charlotte on Thursday and suffered a concussion. Other details about the accident were not immediately known.
Johnson was selected by the Panthers in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has 44 tackles, one fumble recovery and one fumble recovery in 14 games and two starts this season.

The Panthers have already been eliminated from the playoffs, but Sunday is a must-win game the Falcons.
A loss to the Commanders and a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week knocked the Falcons out of first place in the NFC South, but an Atlanta win and a loss to the Bucs Sunday would secure the Falcons a postseason berth.
