Dave Coulier’s battle with cancer is getting tougher, but this ritual is helping him
Three months after revealing the cancer diagnosis, Dave Coulier continues the battle of his life.
During a recent interview with ABC-WXYZ in Detroit, Coulier’s wife, Melissa, said that while the battle for the “Full House” alum has gotten “harder,” they both remain positive and even participate in silly morning rituals that help boost his confidence.
“There are some really hard days, and as the chemotherapy piles up, it gets harder and harder,” she told a local station on Thursday.

“He has such a positive attitude, and you need that to really fight it,” she continued. “Every morning, if he feels good, we try to sing a song and do a little dance with the dogs, because when you feel good, you have to celebrate that too.”
“He had a lot of losses in his life when it comes to dealing with cancer. He lost his mother, his sister, his niece. His other sister had that,” she added. “I think he’s taking every step and really drawing strength from seeing the women that were so close to him in his life to make it through, and he just wants to honor them.”
In November, Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone on the hit TV series Full House in the 1980s and ’90s, announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The actor and comedian said he was diagnosed in October after experiencing an upper respiratory infection caused by massively swollen lymph nodes.

“I went from ‘I’ve got a bit of a cold’ to ‘I have cancer’ and it was pretty devastating,” he added. “This has been a really fast rollercoaster ride.”
According to American Cancer Society, B-cell lymphoma is a type of cancer that develops in B-lymphocytes. B-cell lymphomas make up the vast majority of non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. Each year, more than 80,000 Americans are diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“The first thing I said to them was, ‘Wait a minute – cancer?'” Coulier later told the “Today” show.. “(I felt like I got punched in the gut, because that never happens to you. You always hear it happens to somebody else.”

“I told Melissa I don’t know why, but (I agree) with whatever the news (is) no matter how devastating it is… I can’t explain where it’s coming from,” he added. “I’ve had an amazing life. I’ve had the most amazing people in my life. It’s been an amazing journey and I’m fine if this is the end of the journey.”
