Dani Olmo has insisted that “everything is fine” despite the uncertainty surrounding his Barcelona future.
RB Leipzig’s £50m summer signing has been at the epicenter of a public row between Barcelona and the Spanish First League. La Liga’s strict financial regulations forced the Catalan giants to find a new source of income before they could sign Olmo for the second half of the season.
Club president Joan Laporta appears to have secured the necessary funds by selling the rights to Camp Nou’s VIP boxes for the next 20 years in a job worth 120 million eurosbut the money behind that face-saving arrangement could not be guaranteed before the December 31 deadline. Barcelona is asking for an extension were rejected not once but twice and Olmo has been removed from the La Liga website.
Olmo was outwardly indifferent to the situation. The first player to take the field for Barcelona’s public training session since the winter break, the Euro 2024 winner stopped to sign autographs for fans. Offering a warm smile, claimed Olmo that “everything is fine” in a brief interaction with fans that was filmed.
The player’s agent also emphasized his client’s desire to stay in Barcelona. A product of the club’s famed academy, Olmo celebrated the new year by signing a social media post with two heart emojis in Barcelona’s club colors.
Despite this attitude of the public, a number of Premier League clubs are allegedly interested in the striker, who could soon become a free agent after the registration expires. Olmo gets a clause in his contract that would allow him to sever his legal ties with Barcelona, which cannot resolve this complex loan solution for the last six months of the campaign.
The Athletic claim that Barcelona remain convinced that a solution can be found – despite mounting evidence to the contrary. Mundo Deportivo list Friday January 3rd as the new deadline for one last-ditch effort to crack Olmo, since that’s when all the money from the VIP seat deal is expected to arrive.
