In an interview at Star Sports, Rayud praised Tilak Varma after his masterclass of hitting at the Ma Chimambaram stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, in the second T20I against England.
The maturity shown by Tilak Varma impressed Rayudu, who called on the selection committee led by Ayit Agarkar to dress the young man and make him a three -format player.
“He is a super -star of the crisper and I saw him grow in Hyderabad. He played four extraordinary strokes. Since Saryakumar Yadav has become a captain, the confidence he has given him and the confidence he has shown to him, he pays him back completely,” he said.
“I feel that India has a great superstar and that he can become a player of all format. Not that he is only the T20 player. Given the maturity he has shown today (Saturday), he has the ability to win the match for India for many years, so I think it should be supported in every format, “he added.
England came with a plan to defeat the ball against Tilak Varma – Ambati Rayud
Ambati Rayuda further spoke about how Tilak Varma corrupted the plans of English balls by hitting extremely well in Chennai. He elaborated:
“England came with the plan that Tilak Varma would give a short blow, he would not give him space and make him play with a retreat toward a good leg. However, Tilak Varma had all the answers.
“He used the pace very well. The angles are extremely important in hitting. He hit the balls wherever he wanted to use the pace. He struck extraordinarily with the right approach and performance, and I don’t think England will try again like this one.”
