Cowboy Jerry Jones’ tearful monologue during ‘Landman’ cameo goes viral
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was spotted in an episode of “Landman” on Paramount+ and his hospital scene alongside Jon Hamm and Billy Bob Thornton led many to believe he wasn’t acting as he became very emotional.
“Landman,” a show about Texas oil tycoons, saw Jones in a cameo during the ninth episode when he gave a heartfelt speech to Jon Hamm’s character, who was in a hospital bed.
It makes sense, yes Jones showed up given that he built his fortune through the oil business and real estate before buying the Cowboys.

Still, it was “America’s Team” that tugged at Jones’ heartstrings as he told Hamm’s character why he wanted to buy the team in the first place.
“I’m not saying I did anything right, but I decided a long time ago that I was going to work with my kids,” Jones says at the start of his monologue. “They are involved in everything. They are involved in my leasing, oil and gas, real estate.

“So when I got the Cowboys, I got it so we could all work together. I thought I was doing it for them. But the one who got the most out of it was me.”
After Jones tells Hamm’s character that he believes the disease he’s dealing with won’t take him to the next life, the Cowboys owner was moved by talking about his own family.
“I just know it won’t be this time, but you’ll be sitting here sometime in the future, lying here sometime in the future, and this room will be full of your business associates and people you’ve done all your things with. More than likely, your children and family will to be there because they’re your kids and your family,” Jones said. “But you can have them there because they’re people you’ve spent your life with, worked with, fallen with, stood up with.
“Not just Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s who you want to be with. So when it happens like this, it’s a celebration of your life and you don’t wish you’d spent a little more time watching a few more suns rise. That’s the trick.
“I’m pretty proud of those Cowboys. I’m pretty proud of the things we’ve done in oil and gas. It pales in comparison to how proud I am to have lived my life working with my kids.”
Jones’ journey into oil and gas began with his company in Arkansas called Jones Oil and Land Lease, which boomed. Jones also bought Comstock Resources, which was also involved in oil and gas exploration. Today, Jones and his family are the largest shareholders of Comstock Resources Inc.
With the money he now had, Jones bought the Cowboys on February 25, 1989 for $140 million and has been his pride and joy ever since. As Jones says in the speech, his children play a big role in the Cowboys’ operations.
Jones continues to lead the team as owner, president and general manager, the last of the titles he’s been criticized for in recent seasons, but he won’t be giving up anytime soon.

His son Stephen is the chief operating officer, director of player personnel and co-owner. His daughter Charlotte is the brand’s CEO and co-owner. Finally, Jerry Jr. is the director of sales and marketing and co-owner.
While it may have been in the series, the 82-year-old Jones clearly loves that his Cowboys have become a family affair, and family is something he certainly doesn’t take for granted.
