Chiefs team plane grounded due to ice threat en route to Denver for playoff game against Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs played in the coldest temperatures imaginable for an NFL game, but traveling in that weather it was a different story on Saturday.

The Chiefs team plane is stuck on the runway at Kansas City International Airport, Fox Weather reports.

The airport announced on Saturday afternoon that the airport was closed due to the threat of icing.

“Due to rapid ice accumulation, the airport at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is currently closed to flights,” the statement said.

Rapid ice accumulation can cause a number of complications and potential dangers for aircraft. Ice on the wings can disrupt airflow and cause a sudden loss of lift, which can lead to a stall or crash.

Aircraft affected by rapid ice accumulation are often grounded and then treated with special fluids that melt ice and frost. But in severe conditions, even frequent deicing may not be enough to keep up with the rapid accumulation of ice.

Kansas City is experiencing a winter storm that is expected to last through Sunday.

bosses the plane was scheduled to fly to Denver on Saturday night ahead of the team’s final game against the Broncos on Sunday.

Their flight was delayed because of a game that is basically meaningless to the Chiefs. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce are just a handful of veteran starters who won’t even play because the team has already clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

At 15-1, the game is a footnote as the team prepares to advance in the first round of the playoffs. After that, Mahomes and company will look to complete their quest to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

Before that, they will have to make travel arrangements for the game in Denver.

Broncos and their fans eagerly await the arrival of the Chiefs as the game has big stakes for their franchise.

The Broncos will be fighting to make the playoffs for the first time since their last Super Bowl win in 2015. With a win, they can clinch the final AFC postseason berth. If Denver loses, the Miami Dolphins or Cincinnati Bengals will grab the last spot.
