Chelsea vs Wolves: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Chelsea are looking to end their miserable run of five Premier League games without a win when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

The Blues stumbled to draws or defeats against Everton, Fulham, Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, with the title contenders now looking to retain their Champions League qualification spot.

While Chelsea going through a difficult period, they can be comforted by their last meeting with Wolves. After suffering three successive defeats at the hands of the Midlands, Noni Madueke’s hat-trick inspired the Blues to a 6-2 victory at Molineux in August.

The six-goal defeat came under Gary O’Neil and new manager Vitor Pereira will be looking to improve on that record and performance on Monday night. Two defeats on the bounce mean Wolves are still in a frantic fight against relegation but have shown signs of life under the Portuguese manager.

Here 90 minutes skirmish review.

Enzo Maresca has revealed talisman Cole Palmer is one of several concerns ahead of Monday’s game. The attacking midfielder, along with Levi Colwill, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez, did not train on Friday and will be assessed closer to kick-off.

The Blues are still without long-term absentees Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile in defence, the former likely to miss the rest of the season, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also missing in the engine room.

Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended after failing a doping test.

Predicted line-up Chelsea vs Wolves (4-2-3-1): Sánchez; James, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson.

The good news for Pereira was that Matheus Cunha returned from suspension against Newcastle, although the Wolves star was unable to prevent his side slumping to a 3-0 defeat at St James’ Park.

In even worse news, Wolves are without a host of players for the trip to Stamford Bridge, with Toti Gomes and Yerson Mosquera missing in defence. The latter will miss the rest of the season.

Enzo Gonzalez and Saša Kalajdžić have been absent for a long time, while Boubacar Traore has yet to return despite returning to the first team.

Predicted line-up of Wolves against Chelsea (3-4-3): With; Doherty, S. Bueno, Agbadou; Semedo, Andre, J. Gomes, Ait-Nouri; Guedes, Cunha; Strand Larsen.

Chelsea have proved unpredictable in recent weeks, failing to win five in a row despite going into each match as favourites. It is expected that they will triumph on Monday night as well, although the domestic record is not particularly inspiring (P4, D4, P2).

However, their defensive woes and potential absences heading into the clash could prove to be successful for their visitors, who have attacking threats of their own in the form of the returning Cunha and powerful striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

It is likely to be an entertaining affair, with Chelsea possibly stealing an important win.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-2 Wolves
