Canelo Alvarez explains why he doesn’t want to give David Benavidez a fight

Canelo Alvarez explained why he didn’t give David Benavidez the fight, saying he was disrespectful to him with the way he approached trying to get a chance. Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) says why he should give money to someone who uses that tactic.

Over the past few years, Benavidez has constantly pressured Canelo to give him the fight he wants. He accused him of playing him, questioned his legacy, and also mentioned that he had success sparring with Dmitri Bivolo, the fighter Canelo lost to.

Canelo’s dismissal

Most fighters would give up trying to pressure Canelo for a fight if they were ignored, but not Benavidez. He still says he wants to fight him, even though he’s now fighting at 175. He sounds fixated on Canelo, which some fans find creepy.

It shows that Benavidez is used to fighting whoever he wants without being denied. When he finally meets someone who isn’t interested, he can’t mentally process it and move on; he just keeps pushing.

“When someone comes up to you like that and asks you out, you don’t have to give them money,” Canelo Alvarez told Ring Podcast about David Benavidez. “At this point, I’ve fought all the champions and all the best. Now I can do whatever I want and I don’t like the way he approached it [to get] fight.

“I think he wanted a fight, and he was respectful. “I want Canelo,” Alvarez said of Terence Crawford, who respected him for his approach to fighting him.

“Yes, people want to see a fight and maybe they will see a fight. We don’t know,” Canelo said of the fight between him and Terence Crawford. “Maybe they will see that fight. I’m always open to good fights. He’s a really good fighter with good ability and everything, and maybe we’ll see that fight. We don’t know yet.”
