Bronny James scores a career high during the Lakers’ G League affiliate win
Bronny James is NBA great LeBron James’ eldest son, which directed the 20-year-old newcomer to the center of attention.
In October, Bronny made history when he signed up for the Los Angeles Lakers’ season opener and played alongside his father. It marked that the first active father-son duo in league history. Shortly after his NBA debut, the Lakers announced that the youngest James would split his time between the NBA franchise and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
Bronny doesn’t travel with the team to road games, but he was in attendance for South Bay’s game against Rip City Remix — Portland Trail Blazers G League affiliate — at El Segundo, Calif., Jan. 24. James had a game to remember on Friday, finishing with a career-high 31 points in South Bay’s 122-110 victory.

His strong performance on the offensive side of the basketball court was highlighted by a monster dunk. James also made five of his eleven three-pointers.

A screen from center Christian Koloko allowed James to pick up his dribble and lay down a highlight-reel dunk over Rip City’s Sterling Manely. The dunk also tied the game and started a 9-4 South Bay run.
James talked about his confidence after the game.
“I’m just trying to get my confidence back,” James told a reporter during an on-court interview. “Just trying to play my game. Learn from every game. Until I play in the G League, learn from the Lakers, learn from your veterans and just try to be yourself. It’s worked recently. I’m happy with my results.”
“I’m having fun,” James said when asked about the spotlight being put on him. “Whenever I’m playing basketball, whenever I’m out there breathing, whenever I’m here walking … I’m grateful for everything.”
The win improved South Bay’s record to 2-7.
Bronny’s four-time NBA champion noticed his son’s heroics. “THANK YOU CHILD!!” an elder James wrote on Xformerly known as Twitter, after the game.

James likely won’t get the call to return to an NBA team until next month. The Lakers are in the middle of a road trip and return to Southern California for a cross-town game against Los Angeles Clippers February 4.
