Big shot! Team India is trailing behind Australia and South Africa in the ICC Test rankings after the BGT disaster

Team India dismal Test run continued with a humiliating 3-1 defeat in the recently concluded five-match series against Australia. It was the second series defeat for the Rohit Sharma-led side in the longest format of the game.

After a 3-0 defeat against New Zealand at home, Team India needed a good result in Australia to revive their World Test Cup campaign. However, Rohit Sharma & Co. he failed to put up a good performance as Australia completely dominated the Indian team.

The tour started in a good way for the Indian team. In the first Test, India registered a 295-run victory over the hosts in Perth. But after that victory, things only went downhill. Australia won the second Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets before the third Test in Brisbane ended in a rain-out draw in spoilsport.

In the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, Australia beat India by 184 runs to take the lead in the series for the first time. India’s performance did not improve much in the fifth Test either.

The visitors had to win the Sydney Test at all costs to avoid a series defeat to Australia for the first time since 2014/15. However, Australia beat them by six wickets to bring back the coveted Border-Gavaskar trophy after a decade.

Indian team’s fall in ICC rankings:

The loss in Australia not only ended India’s unbeaten streak against Australia and denied them a place in the WTC final, but also saw them slip to No. 3 in the latest ICC Test Team Rankings.

Australia is currently at the top of the table with 126 points. They are followed by South Africa, who recently beat Pakistan 2-0 in the series. The Proteas have 112 rating points. On the other hand, India has 109 rating points.

Before the start of the series, South Africa were ranked third behind India who were ranked second. With South Africa winning against Pakistan and India losing against Australia, both teams swapped their places in the ICC rankings.
