Addition for Egg Sticks in Cashmen for Dinner: Experts say Consumers should be afraid of pricing increase menu more

Consumers are affected by temporary accessories due to the constant lack of eggs in the US food system. But experts told Fox Business that these supplements are less than two evils compared to the total increase in the prices of menus.

Michelle Kormo, Executive Director of the National Association of Restaurants (NAR), said these supplements are temporary measures and that they can be removed from the menu when Macroeconomic conditions improve.

“When the restaurant operator adds to its menu in such a situation, it is generally because they are optimistic that they will get rid of it quickly and because they want to be transparent with their customers about their growing costs,” Kormmo told Fox Business.

For example, Waffle House, a southern breakfast chain, added a temporary supplement of 50 cents per accessory on Monday.

Waffle House, other companies add egg extra charge in the midst of a deficiency

The company blamed the permanent lack of eggs caused by a highly pathogenic bird (HPAI) – or bird flu – for a dramatic increase in egg prices, saying that “consumers and restaurants are forced to make difficult decisions.”

Although the company did not determine when the billing would be removed, it was said to adjust or remove the extra charge when the market conditions allow it.

Changing the price on the menu will often add operator costs. It also does not give them the opportunity to have the same transparency with customers about why the price changes, Cormo added.

Trump’s proposed tariffs could increase food prices, experts say

“I think most of the time is what we see with other types of inflation … It actually never returns as low as it was in the previous inflation period, which is a place where we only get such a constant sense of firmer economy,” he said is corner.

Sylvain Charlebois, professor and senior director of the agricultural analytics Laboratory, pointed out that the surcharge can be adjusted or removed because the costs are fluctuating, while changes are more permanent and more noticeable.

“Customers tend to respond more negatively to the visible price increases than the separation of fees, even if the net cost remains the same,” said Charlebois. “Although consumers can dislike additional fees, billing provides transparency with a sample of certain costs, such as a disorder in supply chain, labor costs, or credit card processing fees.”

Forrest Leighton, an older marketing vice president on the Clatmeter intelligence platform, told Fox Business that many restaurant customers question the value of the item more prices.

Chatmeter helps restaurants to analyze customers’ feedback to inform the decisions of items, prices and surgery. His data shows that the number of reviews associated with the prices called “overpriced” increased more than 40% in 2024, while the number mentioning the word “cheaply” fell over 10%.

However, the extra charge can provide customers with transparency, which is why the price increases, which helps to make it more comfortable, Leighton said, adding that it is more likely that loyal customers will step down from increasing prices they consider to be temporary and out of brand control, which are often supplements.

Max Chodorow, one of the owners of Jean’s in New York, told Fox Business that he would like to add an extra charge, but legally, he can’t in the city.

“Our costs are constantly rising and only so much can increase prices with consumer psychology,” Chodorow said.

He said the extra charge is easier to implement because people primarily respond to stickers from the price of the menu. The only extra charge that restaurants allow to apply in the New York state is Auto -Insane at parties at certain size or special events, and should be discovered to the customer with certain guidelines, Chodorow said.

They are not allowed to do anything with the fee “besides going directly to employees,” he said.
