Bengal create history by chasing 390 against Haryana in the quarter-finals of the senior women’s one-day trophy
The Bengal cricket team made history by registering the most successful runs in women’s List A cricket. They achieved this remarkable feat in the quarter-finals of the senior women’s one-day trophy on Monday, December 23, at the C ground of the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot.
Chasing a daunting target of 390, the Bengal openers Dhara Gujjar and Sasthi Mondal put on a brilliant partnership of 100 runs in just 55 balls. Gujjar scored 69 off 49 balls while Mondal contributed 52 off 29 balls. Mita Paul had a quiet outing, Sheetal Rana dismissed him for just 12 off 12 balls.
However, Tanusree Sarkar and Priyanka Bala took charge, combining for a superb partnership of 111 runs off 97 balls. Sarkar played an incredible knock, scoring 113 off 83 balls, including 20 boundary shots. Prativa Rana chipped in with 28 off 26 balls.
Priyanka remained unbeaten, guiding Bengal home with a match-winning 88 off 81 balls, including eight boundaries and one six. Bengal won by five wickets with five balls to spare, setting a new record for the most successful run in women’s List A cricket.
Shafali Verma’s knock of 197 runs goes in vain
Bengali women won the toss and opted to bowl. Haryana’s first pair of captains Shafali Verma and Reema Sisodia played brilliantly, putting up an impressive partnership of 173 runs off 140 balls. Tanusree Sarkar made Bengal’s first breakthrough, dismissing Reema for 58 off 72 balls.
Deeya Yadav had a challenging outing, scoring just seven points. However, at the other end, India’s scrappy opener Shafali Verma took control.
The 20-year-old narrowly missed out on a well-deserved double century, falling just three runs short. She scored a magnificent 197 off 115 balls, including 22 fours and 11 sixes.
Triveni Vasistha scored 46 off 55 balls while Soniya Mendhiya added 61 off 41 balls. Haryana finished their innings on 389-5 in 50 overs. Tanusree took three wickets for Bengal.
